Han Qing-jao (Gloriously Bright) was the daughter of Han Fei-tzu and Han Jiang-qing and a Godspoken woman on the planet of Path.[1] She was first introduced in Xenocide.

History

SPOILER WARNING: plot details follow.

Early Life

Han Qing-jao was born to the godspoken Han Fei-tzu and Han Jiang-qing. At the age of four, her mother died and soon afterwards she passed the test to tell whether she was Godspoken or not.[1]

Xenocide

At 16, Qing-jao accepted Si Wang-mu as her Secret Maid and student. Eventually Starways Congress gave her the task of finding out about the Lusitania Fleet's disappearance.[1]

Qing-jao was raised to see everything in the world in terms of her faith in the gods and was determined to serve them perfectly. Because of this, she was never able to accept that her compulsions were not really caused by the gods, and when all the godspoken were finally cured of their OCD, she devoted the rest of her life to performing her rituals in hope of calling the gods back to her world.[1]

Personality

Han Qing-jao was completely devoted to the gods, often extensively "cleansing" herself by washing her hands until they bled.

Trivia

  • Despite sharing the family name Han, Orson Scott Card has stated that she is not related to the character Han Tzu from Ender's Game.
  • Han Qing-jao died a few weeks after her 100th birthday.[1]
