SPOILER WARNING: Ender Quintet plot details follow.

Estavão Rei Ribeira von Hesse, more commonly known as Quim, was a Catholic priest on the planet Lusitania.[1] He was first introduced in Speaker for the Dead.

History[]

Speaker for the Dead[]

Quim was 15 when Speaker for the Dead Andrew Wiggin arrived on Lusitania in 3150 AX, and was very stubborn and filled with hate for the man. Having prayed for his "father" Marcos Maria Ribeira's death, even at the price of his soul, Quim felt directly responsible. Of all the children, Quim was the most faithful to the Church, and truly believed Bishop Peregrino when he called the Speaker “Satan"; the last thing Quim wanted was some stranger, much less Satan coming in and learning all of his family’s secrets. Quim was the last to finally take a liking to Andrew, but after the speaking for his father, and the following period of denial, even Quim began to trust him. Quim was there for the “planting” of Human.[2]

Xenocide[]

Quim later became a Catholic priest and helped evangelize the Pequenino forests. He was later killed by a group of heretic Pequeninos and a Fathertree, Warmaker, in 3179 AX. His death resulted in a mob forming, leading to the destruction of Human and Rooter's forest.[1]

Personality[]

Trivia[]

  • The name Quim, pronounced "king", comes from his middle name, Rei, which means king in Portugese.[2]
